Portal West is a residential led mixed-use development in North Acton. The redevelopment of the peninsula comprises of the demolition of existing structures, design and construction of a multi-storey development. The four blocks range from 12 to 42 storeys, containing 578 apartments and 30,000 sqft of commercial space within the ground and lower floors. The building sits above a double depth basement which provides all car parking, cycle storage, plant rooms and refuge areas.
We are providing all mechanical, electrical and sustainability services including sitewide energy and sustainability strategies, overheating analysis, u-value and thermal bridging calculations. SAP methodology has been used to calculate the energy consumption and resultant CO2 emissions for the proposed dwellings. For all commercial areas, SBEM methodology has been followed utilising IES VE software. A fabric first approach is being followed - incorporating passive design measures such as low u-values, low air leakage and low thermal bridging. Active design measures have been incorporated via a CHP based community heating system, 100% low energy lighting, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. The project has been awarded a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ interim design stage certificate and is on target to achieve a ‘Very Good’ rating at post construction stage.
